Occasionally, I decide to tackle a large cross stitch quilted project. This lap sized quilt is hand embroidered. It measures approximately 44 inches by 44 inches. This butterfly quilt would make a perfect Heirloom Gift to hand down from one generation to the next.
I chose a beautiful butterfly backing fabric to compliment the front. The front is a bright white...my camera skills need work. I hand stitched the pattern, hand quilted the piece and hand stitched the black binding onto the quilt. The quilt was washed after it was quilted and before the binding was added.
The words surrounding the butterflies on the front of the quilt are: Southern Pearly Eye, Monarch, Clouded Sulfer, Mourning Cloak, Swallowtail, Great Blue, Spring Azure, Yam Fly, Rita Blue. These are the names of the 9 butterflies depicted on the quilt.
This quilt took approximately a year to complete in the midst of working and numerous other projects.
